Open-E wil present first own iSCSI software solution at CeBIT, Hannover, Germany Thursday, March 03, 2005 – Open-E GmbH, the software developer in Network Atached Storage (NAS) provisioning pre-instaled software that combines advanced storage management with cost-efective systems, today announced that the company is broadening her product line and introducing an iSCSI software for building cost-efective, high performing iSCSI Target systems.
iSCSI enables the creation of storage area networks (SANs) using pervasive Ethernet infrastructures. iSCSI is especialy appealing since it enables low-cost solutions that provide rapid and eficient transport of block-level I/O data, where simplicity, flexibility, and price/performance are critical IT decision factors.
The Open-E iSCSI Target software enables you to transform a system within 15 minutes into an efficient, IP-Based, Cross-Platform Storage device. It is the perfect solution for multi- workstation facilities that need significantly more I/O throughput, but do not have the resources for a Fibre Channel SAN. "By introducing our first iSCSI solution, Open-E is again the technology provider reducing complexity, risk, and TCO for customers as they extend their existing storage capacity," said Kristof Franek, managing director of Open-E. "Open-E wants to address customer needs in the low to high end of the server, storage and networking markets with pre-instaled storage software solutions.”
The key benefit of Open-E iSCSI Target is that it enables multiple OS X, Linux, Unix and Windows workstations to store the data on an iSCSI network without the overhead of protocols like SMB, FTP or AppleTalk. This enables clients to use the native file system of their operating system instead. Open-E iSCSI makes it easy for administrators to control and manage storage resources and clients' volume mounts. Through an authentication mechanism, administrators can easily change and delegate access to volume sets or individual volumes to the specified client.
